Body found in Melbourne backyard, men arrested

Police were called to the street shortly before 9:00pm on Sunday night.

Two men have been arrested after the body of a man was found in a backyard at Wyndham Vale in Melbourne's south-west.

They made the discovery about 9:00pm last night, and detectives have been questioning two men who were arrested at the scene.

A neighbour, Lynne, said she saw police arrest a man on her front lawn.

"When I got to the window all I saw was a young gentleman on his knees, with his camouflage t-shirt on, a very solid gentleman," she said.

"There was about six policemen around him and police cars were pulling up and that's when I sort of realised something was serious."

She said police were speaking very quietly to the man, who was not aggressive.

"They were going through his blue backpack, taking notes.

"He looked like a bit of a bodybuilder, he looked pretty solid."

Lynne said police handcuffed the man and placed what appeared to be paper bags on his hands before putting him in the back of a police car.

Another local resident, Brian Williams, said he first discovered something was wrong when he noticed lights outside his house about 9:30pm.

"I just walked out here and found eight police cars," he said.

"It was lit up like a Christmas tree out here.

"I was a little bit shocked, taken aback. I thought 'what the heck's going on?'

"There was also sorts of rumours flying around.

"We heard that somebody had been bashed, but we've got no evidence to say that."

He said the man seemed calm as he spoke with police.
