Body in lake 'not suspicious' but cause of death remains a mystery

The death of a man who was found in a park lake has been ruled 'non-suspicious' but the cause of death remains a mystery.

The man's body was pulled from the lake in Central Park, Wallasey after it was discovered around 6.30am on Monday.

Police released a description of the man to help find out his name and now police have identified the man in his 50s but are still searching for his next of kin.

A post-mortem has been carried out but police can't confirm the cause of death until toxicology reports have been done.

A spokesperson for the force said: " Merseyside Police can confirm the death of a man in Wallasey is not being treated as suspicious. 

"At around 6.30am yesterday (Monday, 20 May) police were called to the report of a man's body being found at the lake in Central Park, Liscard Road, Wallasey. He was pronounced dead at the location.

"The man has been identified and enquiries are ongoing to locate his next of kin. 

"A Home Office Post Mortem has taken place and the cause of death withheld pending toxicology reports.

"At this time the death is being treated as non-suspicious and the matter will be referred to the coroner."

A large police cordon was in place at the park  and white screens were put up on the path by the side of the lake while police investigated and recovered the body.

Pictures also showed at least seven police vehicles, including a forensic unit and firefighters who helped pull the body from the lake.
