Body found in hunt for missing Glee star Naya Rivera at California lake

A body has been found at the American lake where former Glee actress Naya Rivera went missing, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office has said.

The star was presumed dead after her four-year-old son was found floating alone on a boat on Lake Piru in California on Wednesday afternoon.

Naya reportedly rented a pontoon boat and went out on to the lake with her son Josey and Ventura County Sheriff's Department said they responded to a report of the little boy alone on a boat around 4.48pm.

A dive team and air unit were deployed in response, the VCSD said that the four-year-old is reportedly unharmed and told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but she never got back into the boat.

It is unclear at this stage if the body found is that of Naya Rivera.

The recovery is in progress and a news conference will take place at 2pm local time.

Authorities previously reported that they were searching for a presumed drowning victim but the search has been suspended over night to resume in the morning.

Captain Eric Buschow, of the sheriff's department, said at the time: "There's a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility.

"I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there."

The 33-year-old actress was best known for playing Santana Lopez in the hit musical drama series and Naya's last tweet is poignantly of her cuddling her son.
