Family of missing man 'devastated' after police divers find body

Police at the Hobart waterfront on Monday, during their search for Jarrod Davies.

Police believe they have found the body of a Victorian man missing after a night out in Hobart.

Jarrod Davies, 27, was visiting Hobart with his father and was last seen in the waterfront area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Tasmania Police said divers last night recovered a mobile phone in waters off Elizabeth Street pier, which they confirmed as belonging to Mr Davies.

This afternoon, police said they recovered a body they believed to be Mr Davies from the water.

Police said they were not investigating the possibility of foul play, but were working to establish Mr Davies' movements inside and after leaving a nearby nightclub, late on Saturday night.

Today, Inspector Darren Latham said around 9:00am police divers began concentrating on an area at the end of the Elizabeth Street pier.

"Unfortunately, we've located a body in the water at 12:45 this afternoon who we believe to be Mr Davies."

Inspector Latham said there would be "further examinations" and it was "important to go through the process".

He said he had been "in touch with the family … they are devastated".

Mr Davies, who the ABC understands worked as a diving instructor in Fiji, was in Hobart with his father for a scuba diving course.

Inspector Latham said police were in the process of obtaining CCTV footage from council and from private sources to better understand Mr Davies' movements.

However, he said there was "no indication of any person being involved".

Anyone with information as to Mr Davies' movement on the weekend is urged to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au.
