Body found in Harbourside confirmed as missing Kevin Lynch, as police inquiries continue

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man whose body was found in the Cumberland Basin, as officers confirm his identity.

Avon and Somerset police have confirmed that the body found in the water at the western end of Bristol Harbour on Friday, January 10, was that of Kevin Lynch.

Mr Lynch, from Dublin, had been missing since December 23, and police had been searching for him since then.

The 45-year-old Irishman had been in the UK visiting a friend in Portishead when he went missing.

In the week between Christmas and New Year, police said the , and said his disappearance was out of character.

Last week, police issued the last known CCTV image of Mr Lynch, crossing onto Hotwell Road from Canons Way at 2.51am on the Monday before Christmas.

By Friday, divers began searching an area of Cumberland Basin, and soon found a body.

Today, police confirmed that body had been identified as Mr Lynch’s.

The inquiry into what happened is being carried out by police on behalf of Avon Coroner, ahead of an inquest into his death.

“Officers are continuing to make enquiries on behalf of the coroner who has been notified,” a spokesperson for the police force said.
