Body found in Hamilton woods identified as missing teenager Amber Gibson

Police in Lanarkshire have confirmed the body found in a Hamilton park is that of missing teenager, Amber Gibson.

Officers had swooped on Cadzen Glen Park at around 10:15am on Sunday morning, quickly closing off Cadzow Street and the below Glen to the public.

The road remained closed for most of Monday as police investigated, Lanarkshire Live reports.

Sixteen-year-old Amber, also known as Amber Niven, had been reported missing from the Hamilton area on Friday and her death is being treated as unexplained, with enquiries ongoing.

Chief Inspector Briony Daye said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with Amber’s loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“As we continue our enquiries, there will be an increased police presence in the area. I’d like to thank the public for their assistance so far and ask anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken with officers to please call police.”

Locals reported seeing children building snowmen and having snowball fights in the Hamilton park shortly before a heavy police presence swooped on the area early on Sunday morning.

Officers taped off Cadzow Street from the junction at Leechlee Road up to Hamilton Town House at Auchingramont Road, whilst police also remain on the scene at two entrances to the Glen at Back Row.

Businesses in the area were allowed to open today.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101. Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
