Police are investigating after a man’s body was found this afternoon in an East London park.

Officers said he was unresponsive when they arrived around 2pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed they pronounced him dead at the scene.

The male’s remains were discovered in Lloyd Park, Walthamstow.

Enquiries are ongoing and a cordon remains in place. The death is currently being treated as “unexplained”.

BBC Reporter Lauren Turner said: “I live nearby and just had officers knocking door to ask for info.”

Walthamstow Labour MP Stella Creasey tweeted: “As and when I get more information I will share with you.”

Waltham Forest Council added: “The police have closed Lloyd Park this evening.

“Unfortunately, we also expect the park to be closed tomorrow morning and events such as the Saturday market will not go ahead.

“Thank you for your patience and cooperation while the police carry out their work.”

Scotland Yard said: “Police were called this afternoon to Lloyd Park after a man’s body was discovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Enquiries are ongoing. A cordon is currently in place.”
