Body found in dock was bank manager who fell from Great Orme three months ago

A body that was discovered in a dock in Bootle belonged to a man who fell from a Welsh cliff three months ago.

Steven Lee Ancill went missing in February and was believed to have fallen from a cliff at Great Orme in Llandudno.

Divers searched the Irish Sea around the beauty spot but his body was not recovered.

Three months later, on May 3, a body was recovered from Gladstone Dock and was later confirmed to be that of 46-year-old Mr Ancill.

The body of Steven Lee Ancill was discovered at Gladstone Dock in Bootle (North Wales Police)

According to North Wales Live , the opening of his inquest today, it was heard that at the time of Mr Ancill's disappearance an underwater diver from Greater Manchester Police, who helped with the rescue effort, said his body could wash up along the coast.

The same diver was also involved in the recovery of Mr Ancill who was found in the water at the Port of Liverpool some three months later.

A wallet was found on his person containing his bank card and driving licence but Mr Ancill had to be identified by a forensic odontologist who specialises in analysing dental records.

At the time the body was found, pictures taken at the Port of Liverpool showed emergency services at the scene.

A spokesperson for Peel Ports confirmed police had sealed off the area after being alerted to the discovery, but could not confirm that a body had been found.

Coroner for North Wales east and central, John Gittins, told the inquest: "This is a case that requires further investigation by way of a full inquest.

"Once further evidence has been gathered, the family will be informed of a date when that hearing will take place."
