Body found in canal confirmed by police as missing Glasgow man James Coyle

Police have confirmed that a body found in a canal is that of missing Glasgow man James Coyle.

The 34-year-old from Knightswood had not been seen for nearly two months.

Tragically his body was discovered in the Forth and Clyde Canal near Strauss Avenue, Clydebank, on Monday.

A police spokesman said today: “Police Scotland can confirm that a body found in the canal near to Strauss Avenue, Clydebank, is that of missing person James Coyle (34) from Knightswood.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Relatives are aware.”

A heartfelt tribute was posted this week on a Facebook page called Search for James Coyle when police were still to identify him.

One of his cousins wrote: “My family and I are devastated and can’t believe I am writing this but my cousin has been found today.

“We are absolutely (heartbroken) my family and I thank everyone who shared his pictures everyday and help search and also thank you to the person who found him.

“My family can now lay him to rest and James we will never ever forget you and love you so much.”

Others paid tributes on the page.

One person wrote: "So sorry for your loss! Thinking of all your family at this devastating time."

Another added: "I am so so sorry to hear your sad news. R.I.P James, thoughts and prayers with your family and friends."

A massive police operation had been mounted to find James with hundreds of people spoken to.
