Body found floating in Hat Yai canal

SONGKHLA: The body of a man was found floating in Khlong U-taphao canal in tambon U-tahao of Hat Yai district on Sunday morning, police said.

Police and rescue workers from a local charity foundation found the body floating face down. The dead man was wearing only a pair of shorts, and there were no apparent wounds to the body.

An identification card revealed him to be Chat Suwanno, 47, a native of tambon Khlong Hae of Hat Yai district.

At about 10.30pm on June 29, villagers who fishing near a bridge over U-taphao canal told police that they saw a man jump from the bridge into the canal. Rescue workers scoured the canal until 2am but were unable to find him.

The police said the body found today might be of the man who jumped from the railway bridge on Friday night.
