Body found face down in the sea and recovered by rescue helicopter near Port Talbot

A 28-year-old man's body was found in the sea off the coast near Port Talbot .

Port Talbot lifeboat was called out by the Coastguard at 11.10am yesterday to reports of a person face down in the water two miles east from the area's deep water harbour.

When crews arrived the rescue helicopter was already on the scene and was recovering the person from the water.

They were taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea, but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

The lifeboat was given instructions to carry out another search from Kenfig Patches to the South Breakwater off Port Talbot, but no-one else was found.

Crews were stood down at around 2.30pm yesterday.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said they were investigating the unexplained death of the 28-year-old man, who was recovered from the sea off Morfa Beach, Aberavon.

Next of kin have been informed.
