Man charged with murder after body found on Nullarbor Plain

A man has been charged with murdering another man who went missing on the Nullarbor Plain in South Australia's west on Monday.

A body was found at 3:30pm about 104 kilometres east of the Nullarbor Roadhouse and 180km west of Ceduna.

Police said Major Crime detectives had charged a 32-year-old Victorian man with murder.

He was refused bail and is set to appear in court today.

Earlier, police said a farmer picked up a man from the Eyre Highway at nearby Nundroo at 10:30am after his vehicle ran out of fuel.

The farmer took the man to the Aboriginal community of Yalata, and police returned with him to his vehicle.

Police allege officers noticed blood on the vehicle and believe the deceased man had been travelling in the car.

Ceduna police established a command post at Nundroo and are coordinating an investigation with help from the Major Crime Investigation Branch, a police dog team, forensic investigators and a search coordinator from Adelaide.

Major Crime Detective Superintendent Des Bray said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw the two Afghan men in the vehicle between Port Augusta, where it was last seen at 5:46pm on Sunday, and the Nullarbor Roadhouse.

He appealed to anyone who was travelling in the area, or had dashcam footage showing the vehicle, to come forward.
