Body found after huge search launched for missing 16-year-old boy

A body has been found in woodland as police and volunteers search for a missing 16-year-old boy.

Lucas Webb was reported missing from Barham in Canterbury, Kent, yesterday afternoon, prompting a huge search.

His family have been informed, police said.

Around 100 volunteers joined search and rescue teams trying to find the missing teenager.

Last night a helicopter was seen flying over the village in an effort to find Lucas.

In a heartbreaking update this afternoon, a spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police attended woodland near Barham at 11.30am on Sunday 13 December 2020, where the body of a boy was located.

"He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place, however, the family of a 16-year-old boy who was reported missing on Saturday 12 December have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner."

Kent Police said in a statement yesterday afternoon: "Officers are appealing for the public’s help in trying to locate a missing teenager from Canterbury.

"Lucas Webb, 16 was last seen in Barham in Canterbury at about 1.30pm on Saturday 12 December.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police on 101 quoting reference 12-0947."

Responding to a police appeal on Facebook, one distraught mum posted: "My son is upset that his friend is missing & we’re able & willing to help in any way we can."
