Body discovered in River Nevis believed to be missing tourist Thomas Gafrik

A body has been discovered in River Nevis believed to that of be missing tourist Thomas Gafrik.

Police tragically pulled the remains of a man in Glen Nevis around 3pm yesterday.

Although he has not been formally identified Thomas' relatives have been informed by detectives who believe it is him.

The 40-year-old from Slovakia vanished from the area after posting a film of himself taken while climbing Ben Nevis.

Twenty seven members of  Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT) had been working with 12 other rescuers from other teams to find him before snow and heavy winds kicked in.

The rescue team said forecasts for Ben Nevis on Monday predict 50-80mph winds with extensive heavy snow.

Police Scotland said: "We can confirmed the body of a man was found in the River Nevis in Glen Nevis shortly after 3pm on Thursday, 27 February.

"He is still to be formally identified but the family of Thomas Gafrik, 40, from Slovakia - who had been reported missing in the area - has now been informed.

"The body has been recovered with the assistance of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service."
