Body discovered after Pacific Motorway pile up

Three cars have crashed into a motorbike, one after the other, forcing the northbound lanes of the busy M1 Pacific Motorway to be shut near Brunswick Heads.

The body of the motorcycle rider was discovered by members of the public shortly after the crashes, which occurred at about 7.15pm on Sunday at Wilfred Street, Billinudgel, NSW.

The body is yet to be identified.

The closure of the Pacific Motorway forced cars off at the Riverside Crescent and they were able to rejoin the motorway at Yelgun, but that route is only suitable for light vehicles.

Heavy trucks were instructed to park up and wait, or consider delaying their journey.

Police are investigating the crash scene while the three car drivers have been taken to Byron Bay and Tweed Valley hospitals for a mandatory testing.

All vehicles have been seized and will be forensically examined, NSW Police said.
