Body coach Joe Wicks is taught sign language at Scots schools for the deaf

Hamilton School for the Deaf welcomed special guest Joe Wicks last week, where they taught him sign language.

At the start of the year, the Body Coach had posted on social media about his plan to visit a number of schools across the UK.

Teacher Jamie Clark decided to apply as the youngsters had already been working out along to his videos.

And they were absolutely delighted to be one of only 17 that were selected out of 18,000.

Mr Clark said:”We never expected our school would be chosen. We only have 11 children in our school, however we share a campus with Glenlee Primary School which has over 300 children.

“I was delighted to receive the email to say our school had been chosen, as I knew just how thrilled our children would be to meet Joe and do a workout with him.”

Joe came to do a 20-minute work out with children from both schools in the shared games hall, before popping into the School for the Deaf where he sat with the children and staff.

The children met Joe and asked him questions, as well as allowing the celebrity fitness expert and his team to find out about the school, the children and the impact his workouts have had on everyone.

Mr Clark added: “The children helped make Joe a video teaching him some basic British Sign Language (BSL), all relating to him and his workout videos. Joe was extremely enthusiastic about this and immediately shared the video on his social media.”

Within 24 hours, the video racked up an impressive 100,000 views.

And Mr Clark added: “The children were in awe of Joe and loved teaching him some BSL. Some of them had drawn pictures of Joe and we also gifted him with a t-shirt with the BSL signs for ‘The Body Coach’ and a baby vest for his seven-month old daughter with her name and the BSL sign for ‘I love you’”.

Since introducing the workouts, the school have noticed improvements in the children’s work ethic, concentration and positive attitudes.
