Police officer has hair pulled from scalp as body cam video shows alleged assault

A man faced Wyong Court charged with 13 offences including resisting arrest.

Dramatic body cam vision shown in court has revealed how two police officers were allegedly assaulted by a man during an arrest on the Central Coast last night.

The male and female officers attended a home at Buff Point just before 10:30pm after reports of a domestic incident.

The vision caught on the female officer's body camera shows a 35-year-old man confronting police and then resisting arrest.

The 12-minute video which is partly obscured but has clear audio then reveals the man becoming increasingly violent with the female officer who screams as she is punched in the face and has a clump of her hair torn from her scalp.

The female officer is also allegedly grabbed by the man around the throat and choked.

The male officer was spat on, elbowed in the face and grabbed by his genitals, police said.

During the incident the man claimed he could not breathe and asked the officers to "get off" him.

The male officer replied: "No. The last time I moved you said you couldn't breathe and then you grabbed my partner by the hair and wouldn't let go.

"I'm not getting off from the way you've just carried on and assaulted both of us," he said.

"We don't even know what happened in the first place for us to be here."

Other officers were called and soon arrived to take the man into custody.

The two officers were treated in hospital for minor soft tissue injuries, Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell said.

"Having our police assaulted — having any emergency service officer assaulted is just not on. Enough is enough and we won't put up with it," he said.

"To be attacked in this form is just totally unacceptable.

"I'm glad on this occasion the officers were very professional. Other police officers have supported them."

The accused man faced Wyong Local Court today charged with 13 offences, including intentionally choke person without consent, sexually touch another person without consent, resisting office in execution of duty and common assault (domestic violence).

He was refused bail and is set to face court again in June.
