Body and soul

From Thursday until Feb 17, internationally acclaimed Silpathorn artist Pichet Klunchun and his Pichet Klunchun Dance Company will take over the 8th floor Main Gallery of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) to challenge the limitations of the human body and the surrounding physical space.

Overloaded: The Intangibles Of Emptiness seeks to convey the limits of physical restriction on the human body as well as the physical confinements of the art space. The group will challenge these limitations by creating a new type of space for both artist and venue, raising questions in order to explore creative possibilities, resulting in new forms and methodologies.

Last month, the Pichet Klunchun Dance Company performed the first part of The Intangibles Of Emptiness at ARTIST+RUN Gallery, where they would perform for up to two hours, interacting with audiences and creating new art. (The works are still on display at the gallery.) The second phase of the exhibition at BACC will last a whopping 11 hours each day, starting at 10am and running until 9pm.

There will also be a variety of workshops over the four days, looking at a variety of unusual topics. Tonight at 6.30pm, is the "Move Your Vagina" workshop, which looks at how to strengthen the vagina for dance. (This is also open to male participants.) On Feb 15 at 6.30pm will be the "Dance Dance" workshop for those who want to lose weight.

On Feb 16 at 11am will be the "Train Your Body To Become A Medium" workshop for those who wish to communicate with the dead. Then at 5pm on the same day, the Pichet Klunchun Dance Company will be doing a fundraising performance for the #saveYOURbacc campaign. Finally, on Feb 17 at 10am, the dance company will restore the BACC's original white-walled gallery.

All performances are free. For workshop and ticket information, visit http://www.facebook.com/ChangTheatre or call 099-213-5639.
