Bodies of two teens discovered at nature reserve in suspected suicide pact

An investigation has been launched after the bodies of two young people were discovered in a beauty spot in a suspected suicide pact.

Police were called to the scene, which is now being investigated by detectives, after a member of the public found the bodies of a boy and a girl inside a secluded nature reserve.

The deaths of the two teenagers is not being treated as suspicious by officers but the news has shocked the local community, with one describing the deaths as “very upsetting.”

Cops raced to Bothemhampton Nature Reserve when a dog walker called in the emergency, near Bridport, Dorset.

The beauty spot includes a disused quarry but the teenage bodies were found in the area of a reservoir, inside the reserve, according to Mirror Online.

Today a spokesman for Dorset Police said: "At 10.11am on Tuesday we received a report of two people, a girl and a man - both in their late teens, having been found dead at Wych Hill.

"To be precise, the location given was Bothenhampton Reservoir, Wych Hill. Officers attended and there are no suspicious circumstances. Their next of kin have been informed and the coroner notified."

Mayor of Bridport Ian Bark said: “My sympathies go out to the friends and families of these young people. It’s very sad to hear that two people who are both so young have died.”

Local resident Joe Hackett added: “It’s an awful thing to happen and we have never had anything like this happen around here. It’s very upsetting and the community can’t believe what has happened.

“It’s the last thing you expect to happen in such a quiet community.

“It will likely leave the area in shock for some time because there has only been rumours about what happened. Our community has not had confirmation.”

Post mortem examinations are to be carried out on the bodies to ascertain exactly how they died and an inquest was expected to be opened and adjourned next week.

The rest of the statement from Dorset Police reads: “Officers attended. There are no suspicious circumstances.

“Their next of kin have been informed and the coroner notified.”
