The bodies of two women were discovered Friday morning by a jogger in a park in Paris’s residential 14th arrondissement.

The local mayor said emergency crews were called to Montsouris park about 7.30am, when the bodies were spotted floating in the park’s lake, which is about 85 centimetres deep.

According to Le Parisien newspaper, the women were 49-year-old Romanian twins, who died in an apparent suicide, their faces covered by a scarf. A note was found on a bank of the lake nearby.

The park was closed for most of the morning while police carried out an investigation.
