Boca Juniors star reveals the one reason why Manchester United transfer collapsed

Former Benfica and Atletico Madrid winger Eduardo Salvio has revealed he agreed a move to Manchester United in 2015 before injury hit.

The 29-year-old Argentina international left Benfica last year to join Buenos Aires club Boca Juniors, but has revealed in an interview with Portuguese newspaper Record that he could have moved to United.

He said a big knee injury scuppered the move to Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal in charge of United at the time.

"When I had my second knee injury in May 2015, on the last day [of the season, playing at] Marítimo, I had already settled everything with Manchester United," said Salvio.

"Without injuries, my career would have been different, yes."

Salvio would have joined a United squad that added the signings of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial in the summer of 2015.

He also opened up on the two Europa League finals he lost with Atletico Madrid, one against fellow Spanish side Sevilla and one against Chelsea.

"I remember everything very well," he added.

"Before the game with Chelsea, Jorge Jesus showed us many videos of Ivanovic in the corners and he scored that goal in a corner, in the last play of the challenge. JJ wanted to kill us in the end.

"With Seville, the following year, we were unlucky, because we were better. Jorge Jesus, if not the best in the world, is one of the best. He said what was going to happen in the game and it happened. The next day, it showed everything in the video and we were surprised."
