Bobby Wagner trash-talked Ben Burr-Kirven after he was selected

As is customary for all newly selected NFL draft picks, Ben Burr-Kirven got a chance to speak with Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll on the phone following his selection in the fifth round today.

Schneider and Carroll weren’t alone on the call, however, as they passed the phone over to All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner, who had worked out with Burr-Kirven at Ford Sports in Bellevue in the offseason.

“He was asking how I enjoyed getting my ass kicked by him in their workouts so much that I wanted to come and do it for them full time,” Burr-Kirven laughed. “He was having a little fun with me.”

Burr-Kirven is excited about the opportunity to learn from Wagner — as well as from running mate K.J. Wright.

“You couldn’t learn from better guys. They’re two of the best linebackers in the NFL,” Burr-Kirven continued. “That’s pretty incredible.”

Burr-Kirven joins Utah linebacker Cody Barton in a very crowded mix for snaps at linebacker — although both are expected to contribute quite a bit as core special teamers.

While he’s learning the ropes as a linebacker, Burr-Kirven will have a chance to redeem himself against Wagner in their workouts as well.
