Bobby Wagner: Seahawks came out ‘hungry’ to beat Steelers on road

The Seattle Seahawks (2-0) defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2) 28-26 in Pittsburgh on Sunday and now return home to face the New Orleans Saints without quarterback Drew Brees Week 3. Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner explained the team was motivated to notch a victory on the road in a hostile environment against a potentially formidable opponent.

“It is a big win,” Wagner said in his postgame press conference. “Seeing how those guys played last week, we knew they were going to come out and play their best game. They came up with some trick plays that got us, but we felt like we came out and played hungry. We got a couple three and outs, got a good rhythm on the offense. We felt like we stopped them really well. There is stuff to clean up, but it is a road win, and those are hard to come by and we are very grateful for it.”

The five-time Pro Bowl linebacker also quipped that the Seahawks have room for improvement, but stressed the difficulties of winning on the road and his pride in how well the team played overall.

“We had our backs against the wall a couple times but did let that phase us,” Wagner continued. “We came out there and really dominated the run game, which is something we pride ourselves on. We just have to clean up some of those trick plays and things like that. I am proud of how the guys played, I thought our young guys focused, the way we practiced. Now we just have to lock in and not let this win go to our heads.”

Wagner finished the game with seven total tackles (4 solo) and a pass defended. Seattle looks to extend their streak of 15 September home victories in the Pete Carroll era on Sept. 22 when New Orleans comes to town.
