Bobby Wagner not practicing, still negotiating contract with Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner was present at training camp on the first day of practice, although he did not participate in any drills . . . similar to his attendance during the offseason activities.

Wagner, representing himself in his latest round of contract negotiations, is ensuring he is not injured before a new deal is done.

Both sides had hoped to come to an agreement before the start of camp. As of day one, there is still nothing in place.

“There were conversations way back, it’s been going on for a long time,” coach Pete Carroll explained of the lengthy negotiation process. “We’ll hopefully figure it out and come to a resolution.”

Carroll does, however, understand his linebacker’s position.

“There’s a lot going on, and I respect where Bobby’s brain is right now,” Carroll said. “He’s trying to figure it out and we’re just going to take it one day at a time.

“We’re taking it one day at a time.”

The Seahawks return to practice Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. and Wagner is expected to remain on the sidelines until his extension is secured.
