Bobby Wagner handling contract talks ‘exactly the way he should’

Linebacker Bobby Wagner, present at the team’s mandatory minicamp although not participating in drills, continues his talks with the Seattle Seahawks regarding a contract extension.

Wagner, who is representing himself, is hoping to become the highest-paid linebacker in the league when the deal is done.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked about the state of the negotiations after the Seahawks’ practice Tuesday afternoon.

“He’s handled it beautifully,” Carroll said of Wagner. “You know, Bobby’s an incredible player in this program and everything that he does, just his presence is obvious. He’s been around for everything. He’s been involved with everything and he’s handled it exactly the way he should under these circumstances.”

As for whether or not the two sides have made any real progress on the contract talks, Carroll was mum.

“We’ve agreed to not say anything about what’s going on,” Carroll stated. “That’s really where that is.”

Wagner is expected to be present on Thursday for Seattle’s final day of camp before the squad breaks for the summer.
