Bobby Wagner counting on Richard Sherman to be ‘bothered’ Monday night

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner and the rest of the team are gearing up to face an old friend on Monday night when they head south Week 10 to play Richard Sherman and the 49ers.

With Sherman now in his second season in San Francisco, Wagner has finally adjusted to seeing the former Seahawks cornerback in a 49ers uniform.

“A little bit, it was weird at first,” Wagner said Thursday. “I didn’t really think he looked good in red but, it’s over now. You see him, you talk trash to him when he comes back to Seattle, he still lives in Seattle so, you know where his heart’s at.”

Now healthy, Sherman logged a great first half to the year, posting 29 tackles and three interceptions through eight games. His play is reminiscent of his time in Seattle with the Legion of Boom.

Monday will be the first time this year the two teams will square off and both will be playing for control of the division. At 8-0 on the season and the league’s only unbeaten team, San Francisco will undoubtedly put up a fight. As for Sherman, that goes without saying.

“I’m pretty sure he wants to beat us,” Wagner explained. “I’m not saying that he sat there and marked this game on his calendar but, when it comes up you know that he wants to win down there. Look at how he was the last game that they won down there, he was pretty excited about it. I’ll try to make sure he’s not excited this week.”

But Sherman likes to play with a chip on his shoulder and he could still be harboring a big one against the team who cut him not too long ago.

“I don’t know if it still bothers him or not, but he’ll make it bother him before the game,” Wagner said. “He’ll find a way. Maybe I’ll help give him some more stuff to help bother him before the game.”

The trash talk will likely continue through Monday night when the Seahawks and 49ers kick off in prime time.
