Bobby Wagner attending Seahawks OTAs with ‘his coach’s hat on’

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, currently negotiating with Seattle on a contract extension, has made it clear he won’t be participating in Organized Team Activites until a new deal is done.

But that doesn’t mean Wagner won’t be in attendance and helping out any way he can.

“I will be here,” Wagner told reporters last week. “That’s my participation. I will be here helping the young guys, doing whatever I can. But yeah, I’ll be here.”

Wagner has been true to his word, offering his advice and mentoring from the sidelines. Defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. weighed in on Wagner’s presence after Wednesday’s OTA.

“Bobby’s amazing. You’ve watched him play over the years,” Norton said during his press conference. “Whether he’s on the field, whether he’s in the meeting rooms, he’s got a lot of football wisdom, a lot of knowledge, a lot of young players could really use his knowledge, and to our credit, he’s here helping.

“He’s got his coach’s hat on and I’m very happy to have him here in any capacity.”

The Seahawks continue OTAs through next week and will break for the offseason following the team’s minicamp mid-June. Until then, it’s wait and see if Seattle will make Wagner the highest-paid linebacker in the league.
