Bobby Okereke remains Colts’ only unsigned rookie

The Indianapolis Colts have concluded the offseason workout program and will now focus on summer break leading into training camp with one rookie still remaining unsigned—linebacker Bobby Okereke.

It isn’t a huge deal that Okereke has yet to sign his rookie contract, but it is noteworthy that he could very well remain unsigned until the rookies report for training camp.

Most of the time, a delayed signing with the rookie contract isn’t so much a dispute in numbers but more of a language hassle between the agents and the team. Sometimes it could deal with cash flow.

There isn’t a reason to be concerned about Okereke’s status entering training camp right now. Darius Leonard didn’t sign his rookie contract until July 22 when the rookies reported early.

A third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Okereke has a high ceiling in the Colts defense. He will be competing with fellow linebacker Anthony Walker for snaps at MIKE linebacker during training camp and the preseason.

It remains to be seen when the Stanford product will sign his rookie deal, but the Colts are likely hoping to get it done sometime before training camp starts at the end of July.
