Bobby Madden sends coronavirus shutdown message explaining social distancing

Bobby Madden has urged Scottish football fans to play their part during the COVID-19 shutdown and stay inside to save lives.

The SFA shared a video of the Premiership referee explaining social distancing, with the caption: "Even the harshest of critics can’t argue with Bobby Madden’s message about making the right decisions at the moment. #StayHomeSaveLives"

Naturally, they appear to have underestimated the harshest of critics. More of that in a moment.

In the video, Madden says: "Here I am outside in the pouring rain to remind you all why, at this difficult time, we should stay inside.

"Believe it or not, I really miss the constructive criticism I receive from you all at the weekend and I'd like to get back to that, and football, and normality, as soon as possible.

"There are some key messages to remember to help us do that.

"Stay at home. If you do need to go outside, please respect social distancing at all times."

Madden goes on to demonstrate social distancing while saying: "Hearts fans always contest that I can't measure 9.15 metres for a defensive wall, or 10 yards, but please, if you're outside, that there is two metres.

"Please remember, and maintain that distance. You should only be outside if you're going for essential work, shopping for necessities, and that does not mean a trolley full of toilet roll, if you're going for medication or to care for a vulnerable individual.

"Please remember these reasons and stay at home.

"I appreciate it's a difficult time, but we need to work together to send off COVID-19. Please make the right decision.

"Stay home. Save lives."

Scottish football fans were able to leave pettiness at the door and applaud Madden's important message, with only two responses urging him to 'F*** off' and only one of those two referring to his lack of hair.
