Bobby Davro talks about his last call with pal Freddie Starr - it's heartbreaking

Devastated Bobby Davro has opened up about his last phone call with his pal Freddie Starr following the news of his death.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the 60-year-old comedian says he fears that he could have been the last person to speak to the reclusive entertainer.

The 76-year-old's body was discovered by his carer at his townhouse in Fuengirola, Spain on Thursday afternoon.

Paying tribute to his friend, Bobby told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard that Starr was the 'funniest man ever'.

He said: "I might have been one of the last people to speak to him because I went over to Spain to do a couple of gigs last year. Someone said that Freddie was living in that place in Spain.

"I got in touch with him, I found his number and phoned him up. At first he didn't really feel like talking and called me back.

"He said, 'How you doing Bob' and I said, 'Alright, how are you Freddie? Would you like to meet up for a cup of tea? I'm in town.' And he said, 'No, I've not been feeling too well'."

Bobby added: "Just by looking at the pictures... I want to remember the Freddie we all remembered."

Freddie Starr appeared in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2011 (ITV)

Freddie became a household name in the 1970 following appearances on TV show Opportunity Knocks and the Royal Variety Performance

He then fronted his own programmes, including The Freddie Starr Show and An Audience with Freddie Starr.

He is also well known for being a campmate on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2011 just one year after recovering from quadruple bypass surgery following a heart attack.

Starr was famously axed from the show after collapsing, amid reports producers feared he could die on the show.
