Bobby Ball tribute film will celebrate late comedian's TV highlights and life

Bobby Ball will have a one-off tribute ITV show made in his honour.

Bobby - who was one half of the comedy double act Cannon & Ball - died last week after he tested positive with coronavirus.

Wise Owl Films have lifted the lid on the documentary they are putting together to celebrate the late comedian's life and work.

Rock on, Tommy – The Bobby Ball Story will collate Bobby's TV highlights as well as stories from his closest pals.

Bobby worked alongside his best pal Tommy Cannon for nine years on ITV's The Cannon and Ball show between 1979 and 1988.

The star also made his mark on the TV world with his appearances in series including Benidorm, Not Going Out and I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here!

His close friend Tommy shared his delight ITV were going to celebrate Bobby's life with a "nostalgic and emotional" tribute.

He said: “I’m heartbroken to have lost my best pal and comedy partner, but I’m so pleased that ITV are going to make his career with this celebration - it will be nostalgic and emotional for all of us who knew Bobby, and for all the fans out there who felt like they did.”

Bobby's high-flying entertainment career spanned seven decades.

Wise Owl Films’ Creative Director and Executive Producer Mark Robinson hailed the star as a TV legend.

He said: “Bobby Ball’s TV career spanned an incredible seven decades. Some viewers still fondly remember classic moments from the 1970s and 80s when Bobby brought a new type of comedy to our screens, alongside Tommy.

"A new generation might know him better as a fine actor, in shows like Not Going Out and Mount Pleasant.

"Bobby’s story is an incredible one and we’re honoured to have been asked to make this tribute to one of Britain’s most loved and most versatile entertainers”.

ITV have commissioned the film celebrating Bobby's life.
