Bobbili Samsthan's 15th generation royalty observes traditional Ayudha Pooja to ancestral artefacts

VIZIANAGARAM: The royal family of Bobbili Samsthanam performed ayudha pooja on Navami day of Dussehra on Monday to the weapons including the ones used in the Bobbili-Vizianagaram kingdoms War in 1757. The 15 th generation of Bobbili Rajas performed poojas to artefacts, including weapons, swords, spears, rifles, daggers, and others that were displayed.

The traditional Ayudha pooja to ancestral artefacts started with the procession of their ancestral gold throne, an ornate chair used by the king or emperor, after performing special poojas to it. They carried out the procession on the premises of the fort in the presence of the public.

The Bobbili Samsthan was established 350 years ago and the ayudha pooja has been continuing since then. The scions of the royal family including former minister Ravu Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao, former Bobbili Municipal Chairperson Venkata Swetha Chalapati Kumar Krishna Rana Rao alias Baby Nayana and others performed pooja.

Baby Nayana told TOI that except for two years during pandemic conditions in 2020 and 2021, they have been performing pooja to the ancestral artefacts. “it’s our tradition and it came from our forefathers. It will continue in the future also. They are the pride of Bobbili Samsthan,” he said.
