Bob Vylan concert cancelled after frontman's comments about Charlie Kirk's death

Punk rap duo Bob Vylan have had their next gig cancelled after calling Charlie Kirk “an absolute piece of s*** of a human being" on stage.

The gig being axed follows the Ipswich band's frontman hitting out at the late conservative activist on stage in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Bobby Vylan told the crowd at the Paradiso venue in the Dutch capital: “The pronouns was/were. Cause if you chat shit you will get banged. Rest in peace Charlie Kirk, you piece of s***.”

Bob Vylan were next set to perform at the 013 venue in Tilburg in the Netherlands on Tuesday.

But the venue has cancelled the gig in light of the remarks that went viral online.

In a statement, 013 said: “While we understand that these statements were made in the context of punk and activism, and that the reporting on them is sometimes less nuanced than what actually happened, we still believe these new statements go too far.

"They no longer fall within the scope of what we can offer a platform.”

Close Donald Trump ally Mr Kirk was fatally shot last week in Utah while speaking at a university campus event.

The UK branch of Turning Point, the right-wing youth group that Mr Kirk founded, claimed Bobby Vylan's words on stage “mocks and glorifies the brutal murder” of Kirk.

A viral video of Vylan on stage received more than 25,000 comments, including from the former mayor of New York and Trump ally Rudy Giuliani, who said the band were being "irresponsible and dangerous".

In response Bobby Vylan said in a video: “At no point during yesterday’s show was Charlie Kirk’s death celebrated. At no point whatsoever did we celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death.

"I did call him a piece of s***. That much is true. But at no point was his death celebrated.

"If it was, go find me a quote, go find me something that proves that we were celebrating his death. You’re not gonna find it, because it didn’t happen."

It is the latest controversy to embroil the punk band, who led chants of "death to the IDF" at Glastonbury, which are the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by Avon and Somerset Police. The comments led to the band’s visas being cancelled ahead of their US tour.
