Bob Quinn, Lions ready to explore the veteran free agent market again

Just because the 2019 NFL Draft is over, Lions GM Bob Quinn and his staff are not done on the player acquisition front.

In an interview aired Sunday night on FOX 2 in Detroit with Lions play-by-play man Dan Miller, Quinn acknowledged the team has kept in touch with several veteran free agents and their representation for possible interest after the draft concluded. The GM stated they will get back to exploring the available veteran options as early as Monday morning.

The veteran free agent market typically dies in the days leading into the draft. There is often a small surge in the week after the draft as teams reevaluate their needs following the draft selections.

Detroit added depth and potential at several positions in the seven rounds over the weekend, but there are still some spots — notably slot receiver and right guard — where veteran competition could be welcomed.
