Bob Mortimer says heart surgery put a stop to his bizarre habit of sleeping in car

Bob Mortimer says his triple heart bypass surgery cured him of the fatigue that made him nap in his car all the time.

The Gone Fishing star, 61, says he toured various locations to find the best spot for a car slumber.

One car park near the Tunbridge Wells Cineworld was “perfection”, he claims.

Bob kept a pillow in his Mercedes to enable him to park up and snooze for a couple of hours.

He adds: "I had a duvet in there for the winter months – a big soppy white one, that got a bit stained and wasn't suitable for home use any more.

"The biggest problem with car sleep is light – I used to have a snood I put over my head."

However, his 2015 op - when doctors found his arteries “95% blocked” –has cured him of the fatigue.

“My afternoon terrible malaise was partly to do with my heart,” he explains on Jools Holland and Jim Moir’s Joyride podcast, out today.

But he still has some terrible car habits, saying his motor’s boot is “an absolute disgrace”.

And he confessed of his Scotch egg habit: “Because I’m not meant to eat saturated fats, I take half the sausage meat off and throw it into the footwell.”
