Former prime minister Bob Hawke says he expects Labor will do well in the 2019 federal election — but his "terrible health" may mean he will not be around to witness the party's success.
Asked during an appearance at Queensland's Woodford Folk Festival about his plans for the future, the 89-year-old told News Corp Australia: "I've had my time; just stick around for a little while."
The ex-Labor leader reportedly said his health has been "terrible".
Founder and director Bill Hauritz said Mr Hawke had been a regular at the festival.
"Bob Hawke came into the festival last night. Absolutely delighted to see him on his 10th visit in a row," he said.
"He's not been well this year. He said to us last night this would be his last visit."
Mr Hawke said he is confident Labor will do well in the federal election.
"I think they'll [Labor] do pretty well [in Queensland]," he said.
"I think he'll [Opposition Leader Bill Shorten] do well."
Mr Hawke's comments comes months after he was rushed to the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney after a case of "the wobbles".
