Bob Fish dead: Singer who topped the charts with band Darts dies at 72 after illness

Bob Fish has died at the age of 72.

The Darts singer, who topped the charts with the band in the 1970s, was at home with his wife Heather and daughters Scarlett and China by his side as he lost his battle with an illness.

Bob, who lived in Wales, died peacefully last Sunday.

Following the sad news, tributes began to pour in.

Music journalist and broadcaster Malcolm Cawley said: "He was a wonderful musician, from his time in chart-topping rock ‘n’ roll revivalists Darts, up to his recent career as a roots country performer on the autoharp."

He went on: "I last saw him three weeks ago after his 72nd birthday, and he was still singing well, despite his terrible illness.

"He stayed positive right to the end, with the support of his wife and daughters.

"They are three wonderful women and were the loves of his life."

Darts were one of the most successful chart acts of the 1970s, earning 12 hit singles between 1977 and 1980 and with 14 gold and platinum discs to their name.

Bob featured on all the band's hit records with his distinctive falsetto voice, even taking on lead vocals for some of the songs.

The musician was just as renowned for his skills playing the auto-harp, a stringed instrument.

He further pursued his love of music by forming duo White Doves with Ian Cal Ford.

Bob's heartbroken family have invited people to join them in honouring the musician.

They'll be hosting a celebration of his life on Wednesday, September 1, at the Penquoit Centre near Cresswell Quay, in Pembrokeshire.

His loved ones said: "Please join us to honour the wonderful Bob Fish in the way he would have wanted."
