Bob Arum makes U-turn on Katie Taylor comments after latest high profile announcement

Bob Arum has done a massive U-Turn just months after his comments about women's boxing ahead of Katie Taylor's mega-fight against Amanda Serrano.

Arum came under fire as he said 'people don’t particularly pay attention to the women’s fights.'.

Taylor and Serrano would go on to sell out Madison Square Garden in a fight that is hotly tipped to be named fight of the year.

But in the build up to the fight, Arum was asked if he was concerned the fight would take away from the 130-pound unification bout between Valdez and Stevenson that took place on the same night and was promoted by Arum and Top Rank.

But Arum said at the time: “As good a fight as that is, I mean, come on for whatever reason people don’t particularly pay attention to the women’s fights.

"ESPN made the schedule and they couldn’t care less. I don’t want to denigrate fights and I don’t want to be accused of being anti-women in sports but I’m telling you this is like the Premier League against women’s football."

But Arum has appeared to backtrack on his comments as Top Rank have announced their latest fighter into their stable with two-division World Champion Seniesa Estrada signing for the promotion.

Estrada currently boasts a 22-0 record and is the current WBA minimumweight and WBO junior flyweight champion.

Speaking of the signing, Arum said: “Seniesa Estrada is one of the world’s premier fighters and is well on her way to becoming a superstar in the sport. She is an engaging young woman who brings unbridled passion into the ring every time she fights. I am ecstatic that she has joined our tremendous roster of world champions.”
