Boat sinks off Scots coast sparking early-morning rescue drama for two people on board

Two people have been rescued after their boat sank off the east coast of Scotland.

The alarm was raised at around 4.40am on Saturday when the vessel began taking on water around half a mile off Badbea in Caithness.

The occupants were forced to bail into a life raft as their boat began to sink before swiftly becoming completely submerged.

A crew from RNLI Wick raced to the scene and were able to find the stricken duo.

They were brought ashore and handed into the care of waiting paramedics but were thankfully unharmed following their ordeal.

Sharing an image of the wrecked boat, RNLI said: “Wick lifeboat was launched at 04:40 this morning after receiving a report of a vessel taking on water a 1/2 mile off Badbea.

“The lifeboat made its way to the scene at full speed arriving at 05:10am to find that the vessel had sunk and the two occupants had taken to a life raft.

“The lifeboat then returned to Wick where an awaiting ambulance assessed the casualties and we are delighted to report that both are well.”
