Boat left stranded on Gower beach after 'party'

A boat was left stranded on a beach for hours in Gower over the weekend and had to be towed away by a lifeboat.

It's understood the 10m motor cruiser ended up getting stuck at Tor Bay near Penmaen following a small party on the beach.

James Davies was on a jet ski when he spotted the boat on the beach.

"They arrived Sunday evening, I believe they had a party on the beach, then the following morning they went to start the boat and they couldn't and it was washed on shore and stuck on the beach for a good eight or nine hours," he claimed.

"I spoke to a few people who said they had a bit of a get together and the boat ended up on the beach.

"It's not every day you see a boat on the beach."

The 37-year-old who lives in Penllergaer said there were around 10-15 people having a small get-together.

"They did take all their rubbish with them. The coastguard turned up and towed them back to Swansea Marina," he added.

Oxwich Coastguard Rescue Team said they received a call at 5:50am on Bank holiday Monday.

"Tasked to vessel aground with one person on board. The 10m motor cruiser had run aground on Sunday afternoon.

"The owner is hoping with the help of others to refloat her on the afternoon tide. We will provide safety cover while this is attempted along with the Mumbles AWB."

They then returned to Tor Bay at 4PM.

"The owner of the aground vessel managed to refloat her, Mumbles AWB took her in tow to Swansea."
