Boat for sale in Glasgow offers chance to make Maryhill feel like Venice

Thanks to the Forth & Clyde Canal cutting right through it and its once heralded glass industry, the Maryhill area of Glasgow earned itself the nickname of the 'Venice of the North' in yesteryear.

And while the Kelvin Aqueduct might not draw in visitors like the Rialto Bridge does, once thing Maryhill's canal network has over the Italian city is that it's not being destroyed by tourism.

That being the case, we've spotted a boat for sale in Drumchapel which, if you use your willing to let your imagination run wild, might allow you to cruise up the canal over Maryhill Road with the sensation that you are almost - but not quite - dodging the gondolas on the Grand Canal.

The boat is a 1965 Chris-Craft wooden boat, one which bears a passing resemblance to the famous taxis that ferry folk around Venice - and which is up for sale on Gumtree for a cool £2,000.

The seller notes that there's "work needing done" to it, but that when completed it "would be stunning", while also noting that is "cracking project for someone to finish off".

And we can't help but agree with them!

It's even giving us some memories of the famous chase scene on the Grand Canal from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Just think, you could even take some photos on a sunny day near Maryhill Locks, stick them on Instagram and your pals might be none the wiser - if you CGI out the 'Craiglang' flat that is!
