Actor Devin Harjes, best known for his work on Boardwalk Empire, has died at age 41.
Harjes died May 27 at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City due to cancer complications, a representative confirmed to NBC News.
Further details of his condition were not provided, though he was reportedly diagnosed with cancer this past February, according to multiple reports.
"He was an artist of great conviction who never gave less than one hundred percent to any role he undertook," his representative said in a statement to the outlet.
"As a person, he was generous, kind, understanding and devoted to his family and friends, a great horseback rider and had a magic way with all animals."
Harjes appeared in two episodes of Boardwalk Empire as Jack Dempsey. He also guest starred on Blue Bloods, Orange Is the New Black, Gotham, Daredevil, Elementary, and FBI.
Most recently, Harjes appeared in nine episodes of Manifest as Pete Baylor during season three of the series.
Harjes was born July 29, 1983, in Lubbock, Texas and moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actor. There, he started his career with roles in student and independent films, as well as in off-Broadway shows.
An obituary posted on his website read in part: “Outside of acting, Devin was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym—he often joked it was safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse.”
Fans have offered their condolences online after learning of Harjes’s passing.
“DEVIN was a passionate man with a hard charging drive for excellence in his acting, who also loved to laugh and look for the humor in life’s many curves,” one fan wrote on X.
“I can't believe he's gone. RIP Devin Harjes,” another wrote.
“Deepest sympathy to his family and friends and fans,” someone else added.
Harjes is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes; his sister Trish Harjes and her husband Justin Kelley; nephews Tristin and Sawyer Kelley; nieces Rory and Charly Kelley; his ex-wife, fellow actor Shiva Shobitha; and his beloved cat, Maude.
