Boardmasters refuses to say if it'll offer refunds for last minute cancellation

People with tickets to the recently-cancelled Boardmasters festival could be left with nothing to show for it.

Boardmasters cancelled the event just hours before it opened after severe weather warnings hit the Cornish event.

But the 53,000 people heading to Newquay this weekend are still to hear whether they will get a refund.

Speaking to ITV News this lunchtime, organisers repeatedly refused to guarantee people would get their cash back.

Organiser Andrew Topham told ITV: "We've got to go through some steps with our individual ticket providers before issuing the information through our social channels."

When asked "You can't guarantee that people will get their money back" he replied: "At this point we need to go through those steps in order to give the correct information."

Citizens Advice said if you bought your ticket from an official seller you can get a refund if the organiser cancels, moves or reschedules the event. The organiser will tell you how to get a refund.

But it added you’re unlikely to get a refund if you bought your ticket from a reselling (or secondary ticketing) website, a private seller or a fan-to-fan website.

In some cases they might have a policy for refunds, but you'll need to check terms and condition and you’ll probably only get the face value of the ticket back - the amount printed on it.

The whole region is covered by a weather warning

The good news is there are some things that you can claim back - no matter what the organiser says.

National Express has said it will refund unused coach tickets, telling Cornwall Live that "passengers are eligible for a refund minus a £5 cancellation fee".

As for those due to travel by train, a spokesperson for Great Western Railways (GWR) said people with refundable tickets will get their money back for unused tickets.

You're also guaranteed a ticket refund if you paid for at least some of the ticket price by credit card and spent £100 or more, thanks to rights you have under Section 75 .

There's also a chance you can get cash back if you've got an annual travel insurance policy, or took out a specific one for the festival.

Aashna Shroff, personal finance expert at  money.co.uk , said: "If you have annual travel insurance cover, it's worth checking the policy. A number of travel insurance policies offer cover for UK breaks.

"As the festival has been cancelled at short notice for reasons out of your control, in this case due to bad weather, you might have a case to make a claim for any costs incurred."
