Port Adelaide are heaving a sigh of relief after scans revealed no serious injury to veteran forward Travis Boak following a marking collision during their AFL practice-match defeat at the hands of West Coast.

Boak came off worst after a heavy challenge from the Eagles' Jeremy McGovern in Friday night's 13.6 (84) to 11.10 (76) loss in Perth and looked uncomfortable as he left the field.

The 34-year-old - who has more than 320 AFL games to his credit - was sent for tests after the match.

In a statement on Saturday, Port said scans "confirmed no fracture but extensive bruising around (Boak's) ribs and lung area".

He will continue to be assessed ahead of the club's final pre-season game against Fremantle on Thursday.

Port Adelaide are scheduled to kick-off their 2023 AFL campaign by hosting the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on March 18.
