BMW towed after invalid Spanish blue badge was being used to park for free

Nottingham City Council towed a car after it was found to be parking for free using an invalid Spanish blue badge.

The blue BMW was parked in Hampden Street in Nottingham city centre and the compliance and fraud team began an investigation into the disabled badge.

Blue badges are recognised across all countries in the European Union, and displaying the badge will allow the owner to make use of the same parking concessions that the country they have parked in gives to its citizens with disability.

While the council states it is possible for foreign visitors to use a blue badge in the city, local officials got in contact with the Spanish authorities and discovered it had been cancelled and was no longer valid.
