BMW seized after driver speeds through red light - right in front of police

An unqualified driver has had his BMW seized after speeding through a red light in Manchester city centre — right in front of traffic cops.

The motorist was stopped by police after darting through the red light while not wearing his seatbelt.

After being questioned on their standard of driving by officers, police learned he was not actually qualified to drive the high-performance BMW.

Instead, the man only had a provisional licence — and was due to take his test on Friday.

Now, the man’s car has been seized by GMP, and he has been reported.

“[We] stopped this vehicle in [Manchester] city centre as the driver wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and went through a red traffic light in front of them,” a Greater Manchester Police Traffic division social media post said.

“Turns out the driver was a provisional licence holder and was due to take his test on Friday!

“Vehicle [was] seized and driver reported.”

A photo shared by officers of the car they stopped shows it parked near the A57 Mancunian Way thoroughfare.

It was posted at 7:05pm on Tuesday evening (August 24).
