BMW ploughs through window of Helensburgh cottage in shocking early morning crash

A car crashed into the side of house in Helensburgh early this morning.

Police rushed to the scene after reports the car had ploughed into the cottage at the Cross Keys Roundabout at around 2.50am.

Shocking pictures show the Grey BMW X5 rammed through the window of the property on the A818 Road at Fruin Farm.

A wall between the house and the main road was also knocked down during the crash.

The house is believed to have been empty at time of the accident.

Residents took to Facebook to express their concerns.

One woman said: "Car still in the cottage. Never seen anything like it."

Another added: "Blackhill is not gritted and a car has taken off at Crosskeys roundabout and is currently stuck three foot up in the white cottage.

"Poor people in cottage. I hope they are ok."

Another said: "Terrible crash at the cottage. Awful. Hope everyone is ok."

A man added: "Seen the cottage this morning, even if the road wasn't gritted that car must have had some speed coming into the roundabout.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a call at around 2.50am this morning after reports that a car had been driven into the side of a house in Glen Fruin.

"There was no reported injuries and no arrests were made.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

A 20-year-old man is now the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.
