BMW left on its side after 'serious' crash on Switch Island

Two cars were involved in what police described as a "serious collision" at a busy road junction this afternoon.

Emergency services were sent to the scene at Switch Island at around 3.20pm today, on March 8.

Pictures taken at the crash by the Roads Policing Unit showed the extent of the damage to at least two vehicles.

A BMW was left on its side, while the front of a Nissan Juke was also completely smashed.

One picture shows firefighters working at the scene, as mangled BMW lies on its side at the busy junction.

Another picture shows the crumpled front of the BMW which in the crash has sustained serious damage to its bumper and bonnet.

It is not known at this stage whether there were any injuries.

As well as the damage to cars, a traffic light column was also virtually flattened in the crash.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the Switch Island collision at around 3.20pm today (Roads Policing Unit)

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service confirmed they were sent to the scene at around 3.20pm, and stayed there for an hour.

The spokesperson said: "Two appliances and a search and rescue team were sent."

The aftermath of the crash caused severe tailbacks for traffic in the area.
