They found a white BMW engulfed in flames at the scene, with fire crews managing to control the blaze and put it out.

No injuries have been reported and it is believed the fire started accidentally.

Locals took to social media upon hearing bangs and seeing flames and black smoke rising from the vehicle.

One person said: “I saw this after picking up from the school run, glad everyone involved was okay.”

A photo taken at the time of the blaze from the scene shows a car engulfed in flames very close to houses and a green space area.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue said: “Fire crews attended Welwyn Avenue, Ainsdale, on Tuesday, June 22 following reports of a car fire.

“Crews were alerted at 2.25pm and on scene at 2.32pm. One fire engine attended. On arrival crews found one car involved in fire.
