This shocking picture released by police shows how a BMW was wedged underneath a road barrier following a crash.
The force say they are investigating the car crash which happened on the M1.
Derbyshire Roads Police Unit posted images on Wednesday of the unusual accident which happened near the Junction 30 slip road for Chesterfield, Derbyshire Live reports.
Officers say the driver of the BMW ran off from the crash scene and said that their enquires were ongoing.
Police first noticed the incident when they spotted a crowd of people looking at the damaged car on the M1 slip road from Highways England's live traffic cameras.
In a tweet at 8.53pm on Wednesday. September 23, police said: "M1 J30. When you think your eyes are playing tricks on you looking at the camera but turn up to find that yes, that is a car UNDERNEATH the Armco barrier.
"Driver ran off before our arrival so no explanation from him. Enquiries ongoing."
